Hmm. I think perhaps i ought to give a run down on how these work...
The quotes are not mainly a collection of cool things that have been said. I have no problem with these sorts of things per se at all, but the main thing about the page quotes is
A: They're there at all to counterpoint the, IMHO, insufferable bible quotes FVB has at his site.
B: Most of the quotes are intended to provide a kinda post-ironic twist.
In the first case the quotes serve to illustrate my irreverant attitude towards the genre, and life in general. I can't take these things very seriously, and this, hopefully, is obvious through the quotes.
In the second case, well, perhaps illustrate via example, I'll just grab five random ones off the thing...
Quote:
"I did what you said, Sarge, I didn't so much as blink, that's why my eyes dried out." - Accountability 3:21
The whole thing is a poke at these kind of commands issued by authority figures, like 'keep your eyes open' and the 'Accountability' source is meant to underline what you're meant to pay attention to.
Quote:
"This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel." - Nutz 1:16
The first line is a bible quote, FVB also uses this one. The thing here was attributing the quote instead to Nutz, which is a British car modding magazine which coincidently has lots of naked girls in it. This seemed appropriate with the whole 'wheels of chrysolite' thing.
Quote:
"Dear Mrs., Mr., Miss, or Mr. And Mrs. Daneeka:
Words cannot express the deep personal grief I experienced when your husband, son, father, or brother was killed, wounded, or reported missing in action." - Heller Good Book 31:355
The quote is Catch-22, which is one of the funniest books ever written. Catch-22 was written by Joeseph Heller, so, Heller Good Book. If you know the book, you'd get the joke, see.
Quote:
"Porn!" - Disillusions of the Demagogue 32:12
This was kinda a reaction to Lucas' and Void's 'adult section' of their site, a reaction to the juvenile thoughts of a certain breed of fanboy and geek. Not that i think Void is one of these people, of course, he's always seemd to be one of the more clear headed 'grown-ups, but you get the thing. The source is a direct counter-point, a hugely pretentious title for a very silly source. The title would break down to 'The removal of fantasy from the popular leader'. I rather liked the idea that a tome with such a heavy title would be quoted as 'Porn!'.
Quote:
"I dunno what the fuss is about, what's so bad about a warp core beach?" - Holiday Destinations 2:32
A pun, on warp core breach. I also like the idea that the pun could be double, and there might actually be a warp core beach, so the source 'Holiday Destinations'.
So, you know, I think maybe if you guys would like to see a direct quote go in because you think its cool (And I'm not saying they're not), the thing to look at is working out a suitable source.
So.
